Emma
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. As a child she was enrolled in the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma decided to be an actor by the age of six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing dance, acting and singing. By the age of ten she was performing and taking the lead in various Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents found Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after 8 auditions. They were chosen to play the 3 leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The film set records for the opening day sales as well as opening week-end take-offs and became the top-grossing movie in 2001. The film was praised by critics and the performance of three young stars. The well-known British publication The Daily Telegraph called her performance as admirable. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her outstanding performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of a Film.
